1. Go Solar
Going solar can mean so much more after you implement other energy-saving changes around your home. Once you go solar, increase the ability of your solar system to off-set your energy usage with these helpful tips.
2. Wash’em Cold
Washing your clothes in cold water gets your clothing just as clean but cuts your washing machine’s energy usage in half.
3. Smart Thermostat
If you don’t have one already, install a programmable thermostat and adjust cooling and heating when you are away from home. This simple task can  save you up to 10% on cooling and heating costs.
4. Mind the Windows
Close blinds on the sunny side in summer to keep out the hot sun, and open them in winter to bring in warm rays. Be sure to seal air leaks and properly insulate to save money, while also increasing home comfort.
5. Time to Upgrade
Replacing old appliances is well worth the investment. Look for the Energy Star label, the government’s symbol of energy efficiency, on a wide range of consumer products to save up to 30% on electricity bills.
6. Switch to LED
Switch to ENERGY STAR qualified LED bulbs. Look for the Lighting Facts label when you shop. It’s a quick way to compare brightness(lumens), light appearance(warm to cool) and operating costs.
7. Turn Down the Heat
Reduce your water heater temperature to 130° F to save energy and money on heating water. You can also wrap the water storage tank in a special blanket that will contain heat and support energy efficiency.
8. Check the Filter
Clean or change your filters regularly. A dirty furnace or A/C filter will slow down air flow throughout your house and make the system work harder to keep you warm or cool.
9. Slow the Flow
Reduce water usage by switching to low-flow faucets and shower heads to save on water bills. Teach family members to be conscientious about running the water while doing dishes or brushing their teeth.
10. Switch it Off
Turn off all lights, appliances and electronics not in use. Plug home electronics, such as TVs, DVD players and computers into power strips and turn off the power strips when the equipment is not in use.
